TRASNSLUCENT VISOR APPLICATION INNOVATIONS
The three production intent designs are potentially a strong want in the Automotive Eco-System. The different applications are identified as below:
Aftermarket Accessory: Targeted for SUVs like the Ford Explorer and multiple GM Models with FMVSS-approved design. These could also be through Rosen website and OEM Accessory Website.
Target would be fast-to-market targeted 2027 CY sales as replacement for current visor on Ford / GM / EV OEMs. Direct Cost Target would be $16.00 to $25.00.
OEM’s For in Production Integration based on new vehicle volume feature want.
The challenge is cost target for high-volume sales directly to OEMs for production additions. Minimum annual volume would be 500,000 units for one OEM 2028 MY vehicle line integration based on 55-week timeline from KO to Production Readiness.
The direct cost target would be $9.00 to $12.50 with Tooling, ER&D and Prototype costing covered by the OEM.
High Feature Add SUNLIGHT ADJUST VISOR: This could be with adjustable translucency with potential HUD Display.
Self-adjustable translucent visor technology, visor blocks sun light proportionally to incoming sunlight intensity. The key feature targets with work on some to validate as below:
- Blocks solar glare / UV rays / snow blindness.
- Anti-glare; reduces glare from windshield, UV radiation protection.
- Impact, fingerprint, temperature and scratch resistance.
- Optical clarity (ASTM D1003), shatter proof lens material.
- Package design to fit existing OEM mounting, impact resistance.
- Designed injection molded fascia with integrated light and mirror.
- 5mm radius teardrop edge, comply with FMVSS 201 Standard.
- Powered by solar cells, no battery needed for lens auto-adjustments.
- Optimal sun blocking in any driving conditions.
Direct Cost target here would be $40.00.
Current Sun Visor designs have TGW concerns and thus a low favorable rating for most. When the sun is low during sunrise and sunset the sun visors have a limited effect because the pair only can cover the superior part of the windshield. The current sun visors don’t have a height to allow protection against the sun’s rays. The other open issue related to drivers’ height – for low-height or tall drivers the current design sun visor may not be very effective. Upcoming panoramic translucent roof designs will make integrating current designs even more challenging.
Rosen Protector® and Insight® lines of multi-axis transportation Sunvisors provide enhanced vison for operators of emergency equipment and first response vehicles. Eliminating sun glare or an intense array of flashing lights at the scene can help add safety and improve a first responders’ situational awareness. Rosen Sunvisors are designed to help first responders carry out these hazardous jobs without visual distraction.
