Actronika Haptic Tactile Feedback

Actronika Tactile Technology allows vehicle interfaces to communicate more intuitively and effectively with their users and provides touch-based solutions for a safer, more seamless, and comfortable user experience. Automotive use cases include the following:

  • Enhancing a steering wheel with haptic alerts for security-based feedback.
  • Equipping an automobile seat with musical bass-enhancing actuators.
  • Decreasing visual attention-grabbing distractions by using only touch.
  • Replacing mechanical buttons with customizable tactile clicks and buttons.

Actronika has also collaborated with Novares and TG0 to create new user experience with intuitive Human-Machine Interface on the Nova Car 2. We have developed a door handle by replacing mechanical buttons with tactile clicks and buttons allowing haptics feedback.

Our modular software ecosystem Unitouch provides methods and content for realistic haptic feedback integration. Allows the integration of haptics in any of your devices. A collection of ready-to-use and modulable haptic feedback effects tool enables you to design your own high-quality haptic feedback.

Three key attributes on how it works:

  1. HP Haptic Library: Transferable across a wide variety of applications, these pre-designed tactile effects enable you to choose the right sensation for your desired product experience without prior knowledge of haptic technology.
  2. Embedded Technology: Unitouch embedded firmware is the seamless link between the haptic content and the vibrations produced by our specifically-designed haptic actuators. The driver allows real-time interaction with virtual objects and sensor-based interfaces.
  3. Actuator Control: The firmware has full control over Actronika’ s miniaturized actuators along with others on the market. Unitouch can control up to twenty actuators.

MULTI-CONTACTS HAPTICS with localized haptic feedback allows different haptic feedback simultaneously on multiple points of a surface. Use cases are differentiate the haptic feedback for different users interacting with the same interface, provide various tactile stimuli simultaneously on any given interface and allow differently abled people to interact with the added sense of touch.

BENEFITS are that two or more users interacting at the same time, ease of mechanical integration, variety of haptic sensations, water-resistant / waterproof design and of course less noise.

MECHANICAL INTEGRATION is through 4x actuators and double-sided tapes for screen and actuator attachment.

ELECTRONIC INTEGRATION is 24 MB of ROM memory for 7’’ screen and a 5 mm grid, H-Bridge, CPU clock higher than 72 MHz, Class D amplifier and CPU clock higher than 32 MHz.

Detailing below an example of Tactile Feedback for STEERING WHEEL SWITCHES:

  1. BLINKER CONTROL: Replacement by a rigid control command w/ haptic feedback. Keeping original position and shape. Sensing : multi-directional force sensing. Effects : 4 clicks (functions 1, 2, 3 and 4, of image)

  1. B/C Paddle Shifter: Replacement by a rigid control command w/ haptic feedback. Keeping original position and shape. Sensing : multi-directional force sensing. Effects : one clicks for each paddle (soft clicks to reproduce original mechanical feedback).

  1. Wiper Control: Replacement by a rigid control command w/haptic feedback. Keeping original position and shape.

  1. Driving Mode Selector: Replacement by a rolling control command w/ haptic feedback. Keeping original position and shape.

  1. Multifunction Panels: Replacement by two actuators with back lighting while keeping original position and shape.

  1. Cruise Control: Replacement by a rigid control command w/ haptic feedback. Keeping original position and shape.

Intuitive Tactile Information (Haptic Signature):

  • Link between tactile interaction and haptic feedback perception.
  • Haptic signals differentiation and discrimination.
  • Creation of haptic feedback signals to communicate specific information’s

Driving Assistance:

  • Active interactions feedback.
  • Passive notifications
