- The Bend Sensor is a plastic film coated with a carbon/polymer ink which bonds extremely well to the substrate material.
- During processing, many micro-cracks are intentionally formed in the ink.
- The ink maintains its integrity in shape, and continues to have a very high bond to the substrate material.
- The cracks open as the Bend Sensor is deflected, and the resistance increases.
- Electronics attached to the sensor measure the amount of deflection by monitoring the change in resistance
