“LED and lighting professionals attended The LED Show and Strategies in Light in February gained the tools they need to build business and to work more efficiently. Together, these events presented 7 pre-conference workshops, an investor forum, coordinated networking opportunities, 22 conference sessions in 4 tracks including, the all-new Smart Lighting track, an exhibition featuring 300 product and service providers, and the first-ever Sapphire Awards Gala presented by LEDs magazine all under one roof in Las Vegas.”

Strategies in Light 2015

1

Integrating electronic components, textiles can be enhanced with many different functions such as sensors and lighting.

Applications are safety applications, integrated sensors for alarm systems , lighting and displays on and in fabric, wireless sensor nodes, condition monitoring, occupancy sensors for vehicle seats and others.

Nano Imprinting Technology

2

New Nano-Imprinted Thin Films Technology creates backlighting and front lighting capabilities for the full range of Electronics.  Can vary the layout of Micro-Lenses to achieve higher efficiency and uniformity than can be achieved by standard Light Guide films and plates.   This allows electronic devices to be uniformly and efficiently lit with very thin profile lighting sources.

BAYER: Makrolon® DX-NR polycarbonate sheet provides high optical performance, balancing light diffusion and transmission. Co-extruded, UV-resistance technology, makes it ideal for exterior applications. OEMs using Makrolon® DX-NR polycarbonate sheet for lenses are able to achieve enhanced aesthetics thanks to the material’s non-glossy and non-reflective appearance.

Global Lighting Technologies developed edge-lit square panel and a circular product lit from the inner circumference. It is intended as6 an alternative to similar-sized OLED panels with similar diffused-light output albeit at a much lower cost.

One other category of optic that can come into play in advance luminaire or lamp designs is a light guide that can be lit from the edge with LEDs while optical-extraction features in the guide direct the light out the surface of the optic

GLT said its offering can be delivered in lengths to 24 in. or more and in thicknesses ranging from 0.25–4 mm. The company will target automotive, consumer electronics, and white-goods lighting applications with the flexible optic. The more typical rigid guides are being utilized in applications where the optic appears transparent when off but delivers uniform diffuse light when powered on.

WhiteOptics® high diffuse high reflectance Films, Metals and Advanced Coatings allow unique design approaches in all lighting applications.

  • Maximize light reflection, output and brightness.
  • Use fewer LEDs and/or lower wattage LEDs.
  • Reduced system temperature.
  • Improve uniformity of light distribution, eliminating “dots” and glare for better overall optical aesthetics.
  • WhiteOptics® high diffuse reflections recycle the light backscattered off of lenses and cavity walls.
  • Backplane reflector in edge-lit lighting.

8The Visilink solution uses electromagnetic waves (or, in this case, photons) to transmit signals over the open air to receivers. The signals are modulated upon transmission and then demodulated at the receiver for use by the end user. The unique characteristic of the Visilink technology is that the transmission media is the part of electromagnetic spectrum which falls into the visible range for the human eye.
For general network conductivity, Visilink uses quasi-white LEDs as transmitters. LED’s, unlike fluorescent and incandescent lights, can be modulated in such a way that the changing power output is not visible to the human eye. LED’s operate on the principal of electroluminescence. A LED, when forward biased with the proper voltage, will force electrons and holes to recombine and release photons of various wavelengths. Since these are semiconductor devices, the rate at which the power output can be modulated is very high.

9LUNA OPTICAL DIFFUSERS apply and implement Photoluminescence Technology based on Aluminates, inorganic materials for uniform soft light to glow on in the dark even when the lighting fixture hosting LUNA is switched off.

Like all photo luminescent objects, LUNA OPTICAL DIFFUSERS are “charged” and can be “recharged” by simple exposure to the natural or artificial light for few minutes. Specifically, as to LUNA OPTICAL DIFFUSERS, charging the photo luminescent crystals obviously occurs even and especially when the LED is ON. Then, when the LED is OFF, LUNA shines in the dark for several hours. The photo luminescent glowing effect comes in two colors: GREEN and BLUE.

Bern glass TIR lens from Auer Lighting:

12Auer Lighting Suprax Glass-based products are better match than alternatives such as PMMA or PC in high-reliability LED applications, especially in difficult environments. The Bern TIR lens is one such optic that is made from the Suprax glass. The lens can withstand temperatures as high as 400°C with no discoloring or degradation of photometric performance. The lens offer 85% transmittance or optical efficiency and delivers a 12° beam pattern. The lens is designed for use with 5×5-mm LEDs in discrete packages.

14These thermoplastic hot melts use extremely low pressure to encapsulate delicate circuitry. Cycle time is fast and processing temperatures are a modest 130 to 240°C, with in-use temperatures ranging from –40 to +140°C.

Assembled PCBs have to be protected from moisture, mechanical damage or harsh environments – Henkel’s Macromelt injection molding process is low-pressure, even the finest, most delicate circuitry can be encapsulated quickly without damage.
