Ohmatex Launches New Washable Connector

Ohmatex has launched fully washable connector, designed specifically to provide connectivity for smart textile products currently in development. The connector was designed in a way that it can be attached to a textile or thin conductive material.

The connector consists of a male and female part, both fully washable, which snaps easily together to provide a strong electrical connection.

The connector has no mechanical moving parts and can be fixed to a thin fabric or conductive material with minimal physical stress.  It has built in strain relief and varying transition zones between the flexible substrates.

The connector applies minimal physical stress to the substrate it is attached to and has built-in strain relief.  There are no mechanical moving parts and all materials are known to the clothing industry.  The connector can have customized PCBs integrated in the male part to create general programmability.

Smart Connector Technology

Researchers at Rochester Institute of Technology and PPC Corp. have developed the Smart Connector, a sensor that once installed in the can provide information about equipment damage and pinpoint the exact location through self-diagnosing technologies.160

The system monitors the primary failure modes in RF cables. Each sensor-disc contains a unique site identifier, monitors critical conditions and reports the sensor status using a technique called back scatter telemetry. Each smart connector is capable of activating or powering-down its energy capacity by extracting miniscule amounts of radio frequency energy from the coaxial cables.
