GORE® Diffuse Reflector Product increases lighting efficiency and maximizes the uniformity of the light it reflects. Delivering more than 97 percent of reflectance, GORE® Diffuse Reflector Product has the highest level of reflectance performance, while aluminum has a reflectance level of 60 percent, stainless steel with 30 percent, and white enamel only 10 percent.

The typical effectiveness of different materials varies depending on the material and the wavelength. GORE® Diffuse Reflector Product has the highest performance of reflective materials, with its 3.0 mm material maintaining an effectiveness level greater than 99 percent (A) and 0.5 mm material greater than 97 percent (B). Although granular PTFE also reaches 97 percent effectiveness, it requires machining to develop its final shape, which significantly increases manufacturing costs. Barium sulfate (a pigment that gives paint added durability on a reflective surface) and polyester films deliver lower performance for shorter-life installations.

Without absorbing any measurable light energy, this non-yellowing material increases product life by maintaining consistent reflectivity over time. This reflective material is available in thicknesses of 0.5 mm to 3.0 mm to provide the level of reflectivity needed for any application.

Ultraviolet Air Sterilization

HVAC systems should have a 99%+ removal rate to protect against airborne biological contaminants. GORE® Diffuse Reflector Product increases the reflective power of UV-generated photons seven-fold. Engineered of a highly reflective ePTFE membrane, this material enables an HVAC system to achieve very high neutralization of airborne contaminants. Ultraviolet Cure Chambers

Science of GORE® Diffuse Reflector Product

The key to the effectiveness of GORE® Diffuse Reflector Product is its construction. This material is engineered with a propriety membrane of expanded polytetrafluoroethylene (ePTFE), a stable microporous structure that consists of multiple polymeric nodes interconnected by fibrils. This structure results in a high number of randomly oriented surfaces between air and the ePTFE material. At each air-to-ePTFE interface, light is bent and diffused. This high degree of reflectance means that GORE® Diffuse Reflector Product does not absorb measurable energy. It also does not degrade or discolor, therefore maintaining its high level of reflectance over time.

In addition to being the most diffuse light-reflective material available, GORE® Diffuse Reflector Product is one of the most durable materials in the industry today. Expanded PTFE is chemically inert, so it does not degrade over time when exposed to high temperatures, ultraviolet radiation, or environmental contaminants such as dirt and dust. In its bulk form, ePTFE withstands a continuous operating temperature of 260°C.
