CMG’s Healthy Seating Technology™ is ideal for automotive, commercial trucking and aerospace seating in years. With a focus on health, wellness and safety, the technology is an industry first, delivering scientifically proven benefits that make the time you spend in your car less harmful and more enjoyable.

Leveraging equipment already present in automotive memory seats, the technology automates small, subtle, and smooth sequential movements in the seat cushion and seat back. Throughout your journey, the technology gently redistributes your body weight in the seat. With each small motion (1° or less), it transfers the workload in the spine and supporting muscles to new areas so that no one area does all the work.

Massage Seating vs. Anti-Fatigue Motion Seating

Comfort Motion is the latest advancement in vehicle seat comfort. The Comfort Motion algorithm is the first system to implement anti-fatigue motion seating making use of what is already in the seat. Prior to Comfort Motion the most advanced seating systems utilized a massage system adding additional complexities to the seat.

Massage Seating

Traditional massage systems designed for automotive seating keep the seat in a fixed position while massage features act on the occupant. Mechanical rollers, pneumatic bladders, and other similar devices require additional hardware to be added to the seat. These devices kneed the muscles and soft tissues to mechanically reduce tension and improve circulation. This is a REACTIVE technology, meaning it is used to reduce tension after the tension and fatigue have set in. With massage seating the occupant will experience a massage-like feeling in his or her back and bottom.

  • Reactive (after fatigue sets in)
  • Requires additional hardware
  • Seat remains in static position
  • Occupant feels a lot of mechanical stimulus (massage-like)

Anti-Fatigue Motion Seating

Motion or anti-fatigue seating is new to the automotive industry. Unlike massage seating, the seat back and bottom move gently over time throughout the drive. In addition to moving the seat back and bottom, the Comfort Motion algorithm can actuate any other system in the seat such as lumbar, bolsters, heat and cooling, existing massage function. These small movements collectively redistribute the occupant’s body weight in the seat over time, continuously transferring compressive and shear stresses to new and different tissue. This is a PROACTIVE technology, meaning it is designed to preempt the tissue tension and fatigue, reducing the discomfort associated with it.

  • Proactive (before fatigue sets in)
  • Software technology
  • Seat moves gently
  • Occupant feels very subtle shifts in the seat position (not massage-like)

This allows the body’s natural tissue recovery cycles to occur, improving circulation and decreasing tissue fatigue and discomfort.US-based company whose proprietary software technology is based on Dr. Paul Phipps’ professional experience helping patients resolve back issues caused by sitting. Comfort Motion’s team works with its customers to develop the best motion seating solution for end users

CMG works with companies in the passenger vehicle, commercial trucking, and airline industries. Daimler is the first to introduce the technology to the market and has market exclusivity through the end of 2018. CMG is in active development with many other industry leaders.

In a vehicle people are sitting for longer periods than ever before. On average people are sitting 13 hours per day. (Ergotron)* The amount of time the average driver spends behind the wheel each year is equivalent to seven 40-hour weeks at the office. (Gabowski)*

This leads to potentially following negative impacts:

  1. Back pain
  2. Chronic muscular fatigue
  3. Mental fatigue and reduction in alertness
  4. Decreased circulation in our backs and legs
  5. Tissue damage from sitting can start in as little as 15 minutes (Herman Miller)*
  6. Impacts are cumulative over years of sitting

The solution as developed is flexible software platform can be customized to your specifications. Embedded in the memory seat control module software automates subtle position changes using the existing seat. Automates subtle changes in the seat’s position improving the occupant’s health and well-being motors and position sensors.

Can integrate existing seat features (e.g. lumbar, bolsters, heating and cooling, massage, etc.). Can be triggered by features like fatigue detection and biometric sensors.

6 BENEFITS DOCUMENTED BY UNIVERSITY STUDIES

  1. Relieves pressure points through regular redistribution of the occupant’s body weight.
  2. Improves circulation to the areas most affected by sitting.
  3. Significant reduction in occupant’s mental fatigue.
  4. Reduces tissue fatigue by migrating the compressive load and shear stress to different tissue with each seat movement.
  5. Reduces fatigue in lower back muscles.
  6. Improves reaction time 4 – 5 meters earlier at highway speed.

Designed to improve your health. These seats take in-car massages to an entirely new level (refer: www.CarScoops.com). Some people call sitting the new smoking. How do you counteract that? It’s something we call motion seating (refer: www.CarAdvice.com.au). Holistic concept for greater well-being and fitness. Comfort is becoming even more intelligent (refer: www.daimler.com). Cushion and backrest of motion seats move slightly every now and then… Stress relief and uplifted mood were the result for passengers (refer: www.Motoring.com.au).

Anti-Fatigue Motion Seating Advantages:

  • Proactive (before fatigue)
  • Software technology
  • Seat moves in gentle, sequential adjustments
  • Occupant feels subtle adjustments in seat position (gentle transitions, not massage-like)

Based on years of biomechanical testing and medical research, this new seating technology reduces occupant fatigue and improves overall wellness and safety through automated, micro-adjustments of the driver and passenger seats. This first of its kind technology can be programmed into any memory seat and can additionally actuate any other system in the seat such as lumbar support, bolsters, heating and cooling, and existing massage functions.
