TRANSLUCENT VISOR

  • Package design to fit existing OEM mount and headliners.
  • Design injection molded fascia with integrated light and mirror.
  • Add 5mm radii to edges as required by FMVSS 201 Standard.
  • Upper fascia will cover aluminum components.
  • Investigate change to a fixed tension joint that is not adjustable by operator.
  • Injection mold transparent lens in polycarbonate to improve impact resistance.
  • Evaluate lower VLT of 2-3% for additional protection.
  • Add 5mm radius teardrop edge around perimeter of Sun visor lens.
  • Add hard coat and anti-reflective coating to Sun visor lens.

Design concept from DeAme

rtek for Self-adjustable translucent visor technology, visor blocks sun light proportionally to incoming sunlight intensity.

  1. Blocks solar glare / UV rays / snow blindness.
  2. Anti-glare; reduces glare from windshield, UV radiation protection.
  3. Impact, fingerprint, temperature and scratch resistance.
  4. Optical clarity (ASTM D1003), shatter proof lens material.
  5. Package design to fit existing OEM mounting, impact resistance.
  6. Designed injection molded fascia with integrated light and mirror.
  7. 5mm radius teardrop edge, comply with FMVSS 201 Standard.
  8. Powered by solar cells, no battery needed for lens auto-adjustments.
  9. Optimal sun blocking in any driving conditions.
  10. Safer, more comfortable driving.

NOTE: The concept design of self-adjustable translucent visor technology was built and tested in vehicle. Also, concept appearance does not reflect appearance of the final product.

Self-adjustable translucent visor technology gradually limits the transparency of the visor proportionally to incoming sunlight intensity.

Next Steps Pending

  1. Higher efficiency translucency driver
  2. Selection of solar cells
  3. Film manufacturer sourcing
  4. Electrode attachments improvement
  5. Add capacitors for energy storage
  6. Output filter to improve EMI
  7. PCB size reduction / possibly combined with visor mirror light.
  8. Prototype build and functional verification.
