Installation Procedure:

Calibration Procedure: Calibration needed as different ping amplitude based on the TX-RX distance, adaptive high precision FOD based on the TX-RX distance and VmaxCOIL can be limited based on the TX-RX distance.

Coil Quality factor is measured during the installation process as below:

  • The device is already installed on the TX surface
  • MAGNET A is placed on the RX surface
  • The calibration process is started with a push button
  • The coil is excited with a small signal
  • The coil quality factor (affected by the MAGNET A distance) is measured, and the distance is evaluated

Mounting the device on another surface: The device comes equipped with a proximity sensor which detects when the product is removed from the TX-surface. When this happens, the calibration is lost, and a new calibration is needed to re-enable charging. The proximity sensors remain active even when the device is not supplied.

The Map Concept: In long range applications, the magnetic field goes through the metal case of the mobile phone causing overheating issues and thermal hysteresis. The fast charging capability is seriously compromised. The solution is a shielding ferrite ring protects the mobile device surface except for where the RX coil is. The charging capability is guaranteed, so the charging time is improved by a factor of almost 2. The efficiency is also improved because almost no power is lost in the ferrite shield.
