ROYOLE AUTOMOTIVE SOLUTIONS

Flexible sensor technology can be integrated into flexible displays in place of conventional touch panel interfaces. Highly transparent and truly flexible sensor technology is capable of curving or bending to a very small radius, while delivering high precision, linearity, and sensitivity.

  • Small bending radius of 3 mm (sensor operational after 200,000 bends).
  • Highly versatile, supports novel and innovative designs, and easily integrates with flexible displays
  • 30% thinner and 50% lighter than rigid touch sensors
  • Customizable sizes ranging from 1” to 7” (single layer) and 21” (double-layer)
  • Can be manufactured to thin or bezel-less designs in a variety of shapes
  • Excellent optical properties, low haze, high transparency.

Fully flexible displays that eliminate broken screens with Ultrathin, Cicada WingTM, Fully Flexible Display – passing tests where the screen has been bent over 200,000 times. Provides fantastic color range, high contrast, wide angle, and high-resolution for outstanding picture quality.

Cambridge Display Technology Ltd. (CDT) Thin & Flexible OLED Display

Novel flexible OLED display and lighting technology combined with in molded, structural electronics offers a unique solution for Automotive HMI applications. Cambridge Display Technology Ltd. (CDT) has developed a low cost, thin, flexible OLED (organic light emitting diode) technology called “FlexOLED” that can be integrated with formed and molded structural electronics to provide simple display and lighting features in 3-dimensional, thin plastic surfaces. The technology can be combined with mechanical or capacitive touch switches to create elegant human machine interfaces (HMI) for automotive controls and indicators.

FlexOLED Advantages:

  • Thin: < 0.32 mm
  • Flexible
  • Flat, Smooth
  • Large area, patternable “pixels”
  • No diffusers, light guides or light dams needed
  • No “hot spots”
  • Very uniform lighting
  • Large viewing angle
  • Easily addressable
  • No pick and place, soldering or epoxy needed
  • No additional PCB or flex circuit.
  • Interconnects or traces printed on same substrate as OLED pixels.
  • Dimmable
  • Low Voltage
  • Safe (plastic)
  • Freedom of design – almost any shape possible.

CDT’s FlexOLED technology is a simplified variant of “mainstream” OLED technology now used in some of the most advanced TV’s and smart phones. Conventional OLED technology is typically made on glass and/or is too expensive to meet the market need for most HMI applications. CDT has developed a simplified OLED device structure that allows for a much lower cost manufacturing process that can support a high mix of designs from low to high production volumes. FlexOLED can be processed in air and does not require the complex and costly encapsulation as used in standard or mainstream OLED devices.

FlexOLED displays are made by “printing” organic layers, including a light emitting polymer layer (LEP), on transparent flexible (plastic) substrates. The substrate has a clear conductive pattern that functions as the anode and an air stable metal for the cathode. The device will emit light with a small voltage (~4 to 5 volts) applied across the anode and cathode.

The “pixels” (an individually addressed light emitting element) of a FlexOLED display can be shaped in almost any way to meet the design needs; icons, logos, text, geometric shapes, 7-segment digits, etc.

FlexOLED provides a superior lighting and simple display solution to LED’s in HMI applications due to its fundamental qualities that include thinness, uniform surface area lighting and patternablilty.

FlexOLED is: a thin, flexible large area printed and patterned “LED”

FlexOLED is not: A high resolution RGB display with dynamic color capability or a TV with video content capability.

FlexOLEDs are designed using standard graphic arts CAD tools. Each custom “pixel” is connected directly to one driver channel (one output channel of the electronic driver that provide the power and “on/off” control to the pixel)

FlexOLED is ideal for In-Mold Electronics (IME) overcomes standard LED / LCD limitations by providing large area, extremely uniform lighting with a thin, flexible, monolithic structure that provides its own circuit layer. There are no solder joints or epoxy interconnects. Furthermore, FlexOLED can be curved or bent (with some limitations) offering high degree of freedom of design and easy, low cost integration.
