Neonode offers a number of innovative technologies and solutions for Automotive applications, including:

  • Touch features for infotainment displays
  • Touch features for interior and exterior panels and other surfaces
  • Gesture sensing features
  • Proximity detection features
  • Driver and in-cabin monitoring features
  • HUD object detection features

Neonode can help you realize touch and in-air gesture control for any interior surface or space. With our technology, mechanical controls can be replaced by interactive surfaces made of any material, including natural wood and leather. Thus, traditional mechanical roof and door control panels can be replaced with luxurious materials to provide your vehicle with a unique look and feel. Neonode technology enables mounting controls in exciting, unconventional locations, such as on and around the rear-view mirror, and using in-air gestures.

A few other systems are Steering Wheel Systems where Neonode has developed a user interface for autonomous and semi- autonomous vehicles embodied in the steering wheel grip. (Picture shows concept developed with Autoliv.). In addition, for Driver and In-cabin Monitoring Neonode has developed a flexible and scalable software platform for driver and in-cabin monitoring using camera inputs and advanced AI algorithms to monitor the interior of the vehicle.

Head-up display systems in cars is an increasingly popular feature but with a horizontal display positioned below the windshield there is a risk that objects (coins, keys, credit cards, parking tickets, etc.) obstruct the useful content projected for the driver. Neonode’s zForce Blocking technology, an infrared layer above the display can offer the most reliable object detection at the most cost-effective points.

Any object(s) placed on the HUD cover glass will block – divert or absorb – light that is passing just over the cover glass. This leads to a signal reduction which the Neonode system can detect with high accuracy. The object detection system can be designed as a sub-assembly that can be assembled on top of the HUD display cover glass – with minimal updates on surrounding mechanical parts and minimal design changes on the HUD system.

NEONODE Obstacle Detection Technology Innovation

As we know there are many technologies that are designed to detect obstacles – especially for city public vehicles like cabs, people movers, delivery trucks, buses, etc. when opening and closing doors. Level 3 and above Autonomous vehicles will have sophisticated ADAC Technology, but as I have recently seen that is not ideal for proximity (< 1 foot) object detection for such mundane tasks as door or rear lift gate opening or deploying retractable step ladder.

NEONODE Object Sensing solution is ideally suited for this application – both for reliability and as a value proposal. To read more, http://www.neonode.com/applications/entry-systems/

About Neonode zForce AIR Technology

zForce technology sense any type of object, determine its size, its depth (3D), its velocity and even its proximity to any type of surface. The technology consists of a set of light emitters and detectors, an optical light guide with lenses and a controller IC that is connected to a host.

The host runs Neonode´s proprietary embedded software stack and is connected to the controller. The controller IC regulates the light emitters, that emit short pulses of light in an intended sensing/interactive plane. The controller continuously monitors the light that is collected by the detectors and checks the ambient light to calibrate the system to work in all light conditions.

Objects in the light path of the sensor because intensity shifts in the received light. This information is used to initiate tracking of the objects. The size and position of each object is reported back to the host. By combining the measured value from several detectors, the position and object size are calculated. Compensations are also made for dust and other small particles on the optical surfaces, as well as for variations in component quality.

Some other advantages:

  • It Is robust to electrical noise and other electrically conducted interferences and to strong RF sources.
  • The Controller ICs use sophisticated hardware filtering in combination with optical and software filtering.
  • It has high scanning frequency, low latency and high accuracy, and operates in a wide temperature range, making it ideal for applications intended for harsh environments
