Next Generation in Car Connectivity Concepts

In 2017 there are some innovative in Car HMI and Connectivity designs which are good reference for developing high end feature design.

MAZDA Car Connectivity system:

  • Convenience of your smartphone while in your car.
  • Use of a variety of website applications and services by linking with your smartphone.
  • Software can be updated to support additional functions.
  • Can be updated to meet evolving smartphone operating systems.
  • Flexible hardware structure featuring a module unit for each function.
  • Range of applications and services available with the system can be expanded.

Continental Innovative Haptic controls based on a variety of technologies, including conventional rotary pushbuttons and touchscreens, capacitive buttons or sliders, touch fields with haptic feedback or electrostatic touch fields. Aim is to provide simple and intuitive interaction with the vehicle, by developing single component that interfaces with the display or body control module.

Features:

  • Conventional rotary pushbutton
  • Touchscreens with optional haptic feedback
  • Electrostatic touch technology for improved HMI
  • Capacitive switch or slider
  • High integration of control elements for intuitive interaction
  • Character recognition on touch fields
  • Combination of control elements with display systems.

The other is Gesture recognition potentially reducing driver distraction. Designed for invisible integration of gesture recognition in vehicle surfaces.

Volvo Sensus 2015 Human-Machine Interface was awarded the title of ‘Most Innovative HMI System’ at the 2015 Car HMI Concept & Systems conference in Berlin.  However not sure in 2017 they are going to improve upon earlier design.

Tobii Eye EyeR featuring Virtual Remote software enables you to add infrared (IR) functionality to any tablet or laptop for control of infrared enabled items in your surroundings. You can use your eyes to control doors, lights, seats, air conditioners, telephones, etc.

The EyeR allows you to add IR functionality to any tablet, laptop or desktop computer for control of infrared enabled items in your surroundings.

Recent drives in two latest city cars by Peugeot and Renault have made us ask if bottom-up innovation provides some answers to the current issues in automotive HMI. There isn’t any great alchemy at work here. But the Peugeot and Renault systems work for three fundamental reasons:

  • limited feature set
  • simple on-screen design
  • use of third-party add-ons

These cars aren’t crammed full of technology. Instead, what’s fascinating is that this apparent reduction in features barely impacts on utility. Both cars will try hard to stop you having a crash and keep you warm or cool. In both cars, there was a digital radio fitted. You can stream (and control through their interfaces) music from iTunes and Spotify, and make and receive phone calls.

Heads Up Display is good idea but not sure of the lighting intensity under bright sunlight.

Autonomous and driverless vehicle technology will present automotive designers and vehicle manufacturers with a completely new and radical approach to the way in which vehicle interiors are designed and operate.

New technology will allow passengers to spend less time driving and more time doing other things, which could radically change the way consumers make their buying decisions.

Understand the 2018 symposium will bring together automotive design teams from car manufacturers and design companies, Tier 1 and Tier 2 suppliers, electronics specialists, in-car entertainment companies, interior safety experts, materials companies, and anyone involved in the future of automotive and passenger vehicle interiors.

The symposium on 5 – 6 June 2018 will be Messe Stuttgart, Germany

Do not fully understand why the concept of Smart Surface Interface and Display has gotten so little true development work from Innovators and OE’s. The concept is so revolutionary – yet feasible.

A speaker that creates a beam of sound only audible by the ones standing into the very beam, creating “sound bubbles” and granting a mesmerizing experience. Allows you to get rid of headphones. It can emit a sound beam until 10 m depending on the volume, the sound environment and audio content.

The speaker is powered by a 220V outlet. It can be connected via a 3.5 mm jack to any type of audio source (mp3, smartphone, laptop, sound card…). An USB and SD port are under development.

Ultra-D™ 2160p (Ultra High Definition) panels consist of 4K x 2K active pixels or precisely 3840×2160 pixels in a panel with a 16:9 aspect ratio. This translates into 8.3 million pixels that project an image as opposed to a 1080p (HD) panel with 1920 x 1080 pixels or 2 million pixels. domain, unlike the simple pixel multiplication and stretching done by scalers that other companies use.
