In many cases not much attention is paid to rear seat passenger comfort. With popularity of UBER and driver driven luxury cars in China, India and Europe that will become more and more important in coming years.
Take is issue of cup holders in rear seat. Currently they are retractable coming off the center console. Based on the type of the rear seat that is not a comfortable location and every time you need to move to get to the cup. Also the construction does not have a quality look and integration of the retractable cup holder in the console creates styling constrains for the console.
Design HMI and Industrial Designer Prateek have come out with easy door mount version:
- Designed to match door trim color.
- Folded in aligns itself to the door.
- Folded in looks like a styled speaker grill.
- With 3M tape attachment owner can attach cup holder to their comfort position.
This concept is easy to integrate and if power connection is available other features like ambient lighting and wireless cell phone charging can be added.

Great idea, adding the speaker grill look and cell phone holding. Still won’t hold a big gulp or a quart size container. That said, most of the OEM cup holders struggle too. Nice work Bobby.
